A statement from the Chinese Convocation of The Episcopal Church

For centuries, we, the Chinese, Chinese American, and Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in this country have faced discrimination. We have worked hard in contributing to building this country. In order to maintain harmony of the community, we are silent. We have been labeled a model minority thus having other communities of color pit against us. Even With the third and fourth generation born in this country, we are always the perpetual foreigners, and not considered true Americans. We have been scapegoated with issues perpetuated by sexism, xenophobia, and capitalism.

With the recent tragedy in Atlanta and the increasing anti-Asian hate crimes. We have had enough. We grieve the loss of lives and pray for the families who lost their loved ones. We are sad, angry, anxious, and fear for our safety.  However, we will love our neighbors as Jesus has taught us; we will be vigilant to watch out for each other’s safety, stand together with our own and other communities to do the best we can to support and care for each other, and vow not to discriminate against others but to fight against racism.

We have racists who attack us verbally and physically, but we also have other brothers and sisters in solidarity with us. We are grateful for your support. We pray that when we are in need, you will not be a bystander but stand together with us. As the followers of Jesus Christ, we will always keep our faith, live in hope and love, and not in hate or fear.
